Welcome to my blog...

I am currently working on a mega yacht in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We plan on heading to the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, and the Caribbean for the winter. We made the crossing from Europe in October. Mike and I have had a great time thus far and look forward to our next adventures.

“I have learned in this industry that flexibility is a must and change is a constant”. If you are viewing this Blog, chances are you are far away from me. I miss everyone so much, but really am living my life to the fullest. I am experiencing new things everyday and gaining valuable maritime knowledge. Thanks for checking in on Mike and I, don’t forget to leave a comment! ~ Danielle

Whale Watching

Whales. I did see whales yesterday, but darn it you can't take a picture to save your life! I'm disappointed to let you know that I do not have any pictures of whales to show you. How about another of harbor seals...you can't get tired of those anytime soon. My dad discovered this sea star hanging out on the side of the dock. Now that is one cool mamba jamba!! No worries, we didn't harm "him" in our investigation.

Victoria

We made it to Victoria! We finally have Internet service (for a few days anyway). We are staying in the Inner Harbor of Victoria until Tuesday and then headed up island to stay out on the anchor somewhere. It will be an adventure, kinda like camping-in style of course! We will probably be on anchor for 2 weeks.

My dad and Wanda are in town for a visit. We have had an awesome time! We are going whale watching today-I'm so excited!! I hope I'm able to take great pictures of Orcas, so check back soon.

Check out our dinner...mmmm. I had a dream I was having a heart attack because the lobster was stuck in my rib cage under my heart-HELP!

Harbor Seal

We are headed out of the US tomorrow. I'm excited to spend time in Victoria! This will probably be my last blog for a week or so, but check back anyway because you never know!! This is a picture of a harbor seal that was hanging out on his back watching Wanderbird getting placed into the water. I also added a picture of a cute baby, just because it is so cute. I didn't actually see this guy though. Don't you want one?

Oscar

My first, one & only, plant since I began living aboard. "His" name is Oscar, after my family dog growing up. He is a Hen and chick (also known as Hen-and-chickens); which is a common name for a group of small succulents belonging to the flowering plant family Crassulaceae, native to Europe and northern Africa. Once the flower dies, the hen below will also die. The chicks around it will have a chance to mature and someday flower as well. I have to find him a nice, sturdy pot. My mom has ALL of my other plants and updates me regularly that they are doing great, thanks mom! Thanks also to mom for the Zing-Zang Bloody Mary Mix she sent in a "Southern" care package, I'm going to make one now!

Have a great weekend!

I don't have any updates as of today. Still headed to BC on Tuesday. The weather is in the upper 60's here, CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT? I hope to lay out on the bow of the boat or somewhere away from the wind over the weekend. We went to see Dark Knight last night. It's a must see! I couldn't look at the screen for the clowns...soooooo creepy!!

I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe weekend! Oh yeah, I'm gonna have a llama (or alpaca) some day!

Before & After

We just took Wanderbird out of the boat yard (she got her cap rails re-varnished). Check out the before & after pictures. She's beautiful huh?
We are still headed to Canada... British Columbia to be exact, but we are leaving Tuesday instead of Friday. You won't believe the delay this time! The beautiful cap rails got hydraulic fluid spots on them from a near-by barge that blew a hydraulic line. Can you believe that? She's getting her spots buffed out; which is coming along nicely. That will take a few days to complete. We should be underway by Tuesday. That just means I have the Internet for a few additional days -yeah!

Canada Bound

Remember when I said change is a constant in this industry? Now we are headed to Canada for the rest of the summer. We will be in British Columbia and surrounding Islands. I'm really excited! It is actually warmer there than this side of Washington. It is one of the most amazing places I've ever been and think it will be a great place to spend some additional time. Unfortunately we have not worked out how we will have the Internet while we are there, so I may not be able to keep up with the blog as I had planned. I will keep you posted. We leave this Friday for Victoria, British Columbia.
